Our Concept for the Cultural & Museum Center Karonga (CMCK), in Malawi.
With the Cultural & Museum Center, Uraha Foundation aims to fulfill local needs for education and information by preserving and presenting the treasures of Malawi's natural and cultural heritage. It integrates the main aspects of natural and cultural heritage education, management and research in these areas:
| The Central Exhibition Area is home to the 130 Million year old fossil of the Malawisaurus, which was discovered 45 kms south from the Museum site. The transport of the precious fossil and cast was sponsored by Presstrust Malawi and delivered by British Airways. |

The Cultural Activity Area will provide a meeting place for the people of Karonga and their visitors. Still under construction the building has quickly become a site for all sorts of cultural events such as drama and dance performances, music and choir events. |
| The Display & Panorama Area features 240 million years of Karonga history - from dinosaurs to democracy, including prehistoric landscapes, animals & early humans and their way of life, archaeological records, history of slave trade, colonial times, Malawi under Dr. Banda, culture and traditions of Karonga people. Although encompassing regional and national events and developments, the displays will provide a local focus, highlighting the contributions and achievements of local people. |

The Center for Field Research co-operates in international projects. With its unique concept the Karonga Cultural & Museum Center is a key factor for promoting appreciation of Malawi's Cultural & Natural heritage by educational development and research.

The Integrated Learning and Information Center will support school children and teachers with guided tours through Karongas' history, educational material, hands on experiences at sites of historical and cultural interest and events. Furthermore a field school at Malema, 11 km south of Karonga, shall attract students from within Malawi and abroad to study the fossils of Karonga District at excavation sites and in the laboratory.

Ownership
The collection, preservation and display of the artifacts will be undertaken by the Department of Antiquities in conjunction with the Uraha Foundation. The emphasis of the Cultural Exhibition component is on community participation, local traditional and community leaders were urged to assist in assembling the different collections for exhibition.
The community and chaminade Secondary School donated numerous items which are now on display.
The various artifacts and material items that comprise the exhibits will nevertheless remain the property of the contributing individuals and communities. It is the policy of the Cultural & Museum Center to promote the posterity of local cultural traditions and therefore it aims to encourage the preservation of these cultural items within community structures.
